Mid points worked Examples


Example:-01

M is the midpoint of P,Q such \[P\equiv\left(5,7\right)\,Q\equiv(3,2)\] Find the coordinates of M.

 Solution:-01

To find the midpoint we use the formulae

\[M\equiv\left(\frac{x_{1}+x_{2}}{2},\frac{y_{1}+y_{2}}{2}\right)\] Substitute the values 

  \[x_{1}=5,x_{2}=3,y_{1}=7,y_{2}=2\] \[M\equiv\left(\frac{5+3}{2},\frac{7+2}{2}\right)\] \[M\equiv\left(\frac{8}{2},\frac{9}{2}\right)\] \[M\equiv\left(4,\frac{9}{2}\right)\]


Example:-02

M is the midpoint of P,Q such \[P\equiv\left(9,-2\right)\,Q\equiv(-5,3)\] Find the coordinates of M.

Solution:-02

To find the midpoint we use the formulae

\[M\equiv\left(\frac{x_{1}+x_{2}}{2},\frac{y_{1}+y_{2}}{2}\right)\] \[M\equiv\left(\frac{9-5}{2},\frac{-2+3}{2}\right)\] \[M\equiv\left(\frac{4}{2},\frac{1}{2}\right)\] \[M\equiv\left(2,\frac{1}{2}\right)\]
